Low Income Solutions

The average cost of assisted living in the United States is between $3,000 and $3,500 a month. The cost of assisted living varies according to the cost of living in an area, so in some areas of the country the cost of assisted living may be much less than that.

Levels of care also affect the price of assisted living. There is typically a monthly rent fee, and then added to that are care charges based on what assistance the resident requires.

BUNDLED PRICING

Another factor to consider while looking at the monthly costs is that within the price of assisted living many of the extra costs we have each month are included. Many assisted living communities include utility bills and some even include cable, phone and internet services. Three meals a day are also included in that price for the residents. While adding up the currently month expenses, keep in mind that utilities and food will no longer be separate bills.

OTHER SOURCES OF INCOME

Before setting a concrete monthly budget it is very important to exhaust all other sources of income. Take into consideration any liquid assets such as cars, property and homes. Look at savings accounts, retirement plans, CDs, money market accounts and checking accounts. It is also important to know whether or not there is a long-term-care insurance policy that can assist with the cast of assisted living.

ALTERNATIVE SENIOR CARE OPTIONS

After looking into all other options and you or your loved one is still not able to pay for the average $3,000 to $3,500 monthly price tag associated with assisted living care, there are other options. Some nursing homes and skilled nursing homes accept Medicaid and or Medicare. A select few assisted living communities may also accept private pay for the beginning of the resident’s stay, and then accept other forms of payment if private funds run out.
