As children, our grandparents are like superheroes without capes. They offer all the love and support that our parents gave with the added bonus of spoiling us with extra love and sweets too. But as I grew older and watched them age ahead of me, I realized that their super powers don’t make them immune to the aging process.
As my grandmother aged, her struggle was with Dementia, taking away memories and faces from her every day. It was difficult to watch her decline, but perhaps even more painful was to watch the effects her decline had on my grandfather and my mother as they comprehended the situation and prepared for what was ahead.
I remember many nights, where my mother made countless phone calls, chased communities and various state/federal organizations trying to find care for my grandmother. She often felt completely hopeless. There were just too many calls to be made, too many questions to ask, and not enough time left for it all. Was there a better way to do this?
After graduating with a degree in Marketing, I found SeniorLiving.Net and finally found the answer to my question.
As a Care Advisor with SeniorLiving.Net, I have had the privilege of helping families like my own navigate their way through the process of finding the right care for their loved ones. In many ways, it has allowed me to give back part of what Dementia took away from my grandmother by giving families hope and guidance during their time of need.
